Brudders On the Go: 6 Ways to Turn Travel into Learning Adventures

Summer travel is the perfect opportunity to expand your child’s learning beyond the classroom!

Exposure to new environments outside your child’s daily norms are opportunities to grow their curiosity, connections, and ultimately, confidence.

Here are 6 ways to turn travel into new learning adventures

(with a bonus activity pack at the end!)

1. Let Travel Shape Your Children

Moving outside of your child’s daily norms brings valuable new exposure to your child AND helps them learn to navigate new paths in unfamiliar territories.

Ask them: What’s something new you saw on this trip that you haven’t seen before? What was something hard for you on this trip, and how did you overcome it? What did you love about this trip that you’d want to do again? Where would you like to travel to next?

Activity: Make these questions fun with our free downloadable travel pack. Everything in this blog post is turned into a fun learning activity for your kiddo.

2. Pack a Travel Buddy: Having a familiar friend by their side helps ease transitions and makes travel less stressful for little ones. And, how fun is it watching your kids pack bags and precious belongings for their favorite furry friend?

Let your child bring along their Snuggle Brudders, as their soft and comforting travel companion!

Activity: Encourage role playing with Brudders. Have your child step into “parent mode” and get Brudders ready for his new trip! But Brudders is feeling nervous. What can your child say to Brudders to turn his nerves into excitement? How can your child best prepare Brudders for his new adventure?

3. Read on the Road: Pack your child’s favorite books and create reading moments during downtime. Not only to continue reading in the summer (of course), BUT your child’s favorite books will bring familiarity to them when they have the jitters in a new place. And as we all know, familiar, favored stories can be super comforting to kids.

4. Create your own real life adventure story! We are pumped about this one. Have your child pick one of their most memorable vacation days and identify what happened in the beginning, middle, and end of that day. Have them draw pictures of their adventure and tell it to you for storytime that night. (Tip: Story templates are included in this post’s travel pack download!)

5. Create a Travel Journal: Encourage your child to draw pictures of where they went and what they saw. Glue small envelopes into their journal as a spot to keep the treasures they picked up along the way. We included travel journal sheets in our travel pack as well.

6. Give Them Packing Responsibilities: Host a pre-vacation meeting and discuss with your child what some important items would be to pack for their vacation. Next, empower them with responsibility! Print the packing list in our travel pack download so your child can make sure they have every item on their list checked off before leaving for their big trip. Then, do it again before it’s time to pack up to head home!
