Taught by Award-Winning Illustrator, Derek Roberts
Derek Roberts won the First Place Purple Dragonfly Award for best illustrations in his Brudders® book series! He’s an art teacher and watercolor artist who loves painting imaginative worlds for kids.
Derek’s career started in graphic design before moving into storyboarding, animation, and ultimately illustration. He hopes his paintings will inspire children’s minds to go into creative, happy places like they’ve done for him.
Derek holds a Bachelor's degree in Animation from Laguna College of Art & Design and lives in the Tampa Bay area with his author wife, Kristin.

How Our Classes Work

We come to you! We just need you to secure the space, tables and chairs. We bring everything else!

For a 1-hour class, we recommend group sizes up to 12 painters. If you have more kids, let us know in your request form and we’re happy to work with you.

Exciting 1 hour step-by-step acrylic painting class with Brudders® illustrator Derek and author, Kristin. We bring all table cloths/coverings, canvases, paint materials, smocks, clean up tools…..basically everything but the tables and chairs.
Kids can just show up ready to have fun!

If within 15 miles of zip 34638:
1 hour class for 1-12 painters: Flat fee of $300.
For 13-20 painters, add $20/additional painter. Class time could run a little past 1 hour with additional painters.
Have a larger group? Let us know your vision and we’re happy to work with you! (We are an approved vendor in many Florida school districts!)
If outside 15 miles of zip 34638: Add $1.25/mile for each additional mile round-trip.

Please inquire and book early as our fall and spring weekends get very full with Derek’s art shows.
We require a nonrefundable 50% deposit to book the event date. If you need to reschedule and are at least 30 days out from the event date, we can apply your deposit to a future date. The remaining balance will be due 7 days prior to the event.

Questions You Might Have

We generally recommend ages 5-12 for our regular kids classes. It’s an age range that seems to enjoy common painting themes and work well together within our 1 hour class.

As long as you have the space, tables, and chairs, all kinds of groups will enjoy it! Here’s some we commonly do:
Community HOAs, Country clubs, etc. at their clubhouses
Homeschool Co-ops at their meeting spaces
Church camps and summer camps
Schools and other organizations
Birthday and holiday-themed parties
Children’s retailer events

Any open space where kids can either all face Derek or turn their heads sideways to see him. We don’t want to put kids in a position where their backs are towards the teacher and they have to fully turn around.
If you have limited width space, U-shape or “11” types of layouts work great. When you submit your booking request, we can easily help figure out the best table layout for you. We’ve done lots of these!

For a 1-hour class, plan for us to arrive about 40 minutes early to set up and 30 minutes after for breakdown and clean-up. We’ll just need access to a sink to fill and dump the painters’ water jars.
Other than that, just have the tables and chairs set out, and we’ll take care of the rest!

Our minimum fee is $300 because of the prep time we put into your event and the travel time.
If you do have less than 12 painters, then each child will get more individualized attention. And, we may even have time to add more details into the painting. :)

Each additional painter after 12 is $20/painter. Make sure to tell us one week prior to the event so we bring enough materials. We only bring materials for the amount of scheduled and paid-for painters.

Sure! Let us know at the time of booking if you’d like a certain theme, and we’re happy to accommodate that!
Otherwise, we have plenty of options you can choose from that have proven successful.
**Just note - paintings cannot be changed once we’re within 30 days of your event date.

That is totally up to the organizer. They would assume the responsibility for the kiddos. We’re the professionals here to help your kids paint a masterpiece. :)

We require a nonrefundable 50% deposit to book the date. If your event date is at least 30 days out, and you need to cancel or reschedule, you can apply your deposit to a future date within the next 12 months. We cannot refund deposits in any circumstance.
Here’s why: We have high demand and limited availability, especially on weekends in peak seasons. This policy ensures dates are available to those who are super excited and ready to paint.
Any remaining balance due for your booking is due 7 days prior to the event. This must be paid in order for the event to take place.
Unusual or unforeseen circumstances: Hurricanes, an alligator broke into your space, unexpected illnesses and emergencies happen, we totally understand! In these cases, we can apply any monies paid to a future available date within the next 12 months.

Yes we do! The pricing differs a bit since these paintings are generally a little more complex and the class duration is longer. Let us know your vision and we’ll see what we can work out!
